Market context
The headline is tidy. Grind higher, retest $82,000, shorts torched, ETFs bid. The flow picture under it is messier.
Decrypt reported that a hot inflation print on Wednesday revived Fed rate-hike bets and triggered close to $1 billion in crypto liquidations, with margin bulls paying most of the bill. CoinDesk's daybook flagged the same cross-asset tell: Bitcoin, copper, stocks and yields all fell while gold rose, which is the fingerprint of a classic risk-off rotation rather than a growth-on tape.
Into that macro mix, the structural bid did not blink. The feed digest tracks $731 million in net ETF inflows last week, the largest print since January, and strategic buyers returning after a two-month pause. Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan published a memo arguing BTC wins in every macro scenario, per BeInCrypto, which is the kind of institutional throat-clearing you see when allocators are already positioned and want air cover for the next ticket.
The BTC-to-gold ratio printing an all-time high of 18. 17 is the single cleanest tell that this is a hedge trade, not a speculative one. What that leaves is a market where the custodial, slow-moving bid is strong and the fast-money bid is thin.
Price can sit at $82,000 on that mix. It cannot squeeze to new highs on it without the margin layer rebuilding, and that layer just got cleared.
Technical setup
The level that matters today is $82,000. CryptoBriefing noted BTC retested it with roughly $20 million in margin shorts liquidated into the move, which is a small number against the broader liquidation tally and tells you most of the pain Wednesday sat on the long side. That is a healthier flush than the inverse.
