Market context
The setup is a split tape. Risk assets are nervous, but the two things institutions buy when they get defensive, gold and bitcoin, are both bid. The BTC/gold ratio at 18.17 is a record, and it is telling you that the marginal allocator at a pension or multi-strat is not choosing between the two. They are buying both.
The $731 million spot BTC ETF week, per the Cryptomat entity summary, is the loudest signal on the sheet. That is the heaviest print since January and lands against a backdrop where Ethereum funds bled $320.1 million over the five sessions through October 16, with BlackRock's ETHA alone accounting for roughly $299 million of that, Farside Investors data cited by NewsBTC shows. Bitcoin outflows slowed to $228.4 million in the comparable window. The rotation inside the ETF complex is the story the price tape has not yet printed.
Michael Saylor's pitch at ParaFi Investor Day on Thursday framed bitcoin as digital capital, not a trading vehicle, CryptoBriefing reported. Strategy conditionally declared daily STRC preferred dividends for November at roughly a 12% annualized rate, pending the October 28 shareholder vote. Strive, the other listed BTC treasury of note, now holds 35,595 BTC and drew a target raise from TD Cowen to $56 from $44, per NewsBTC. The corporate bid is not loud this week. It is relentless.
Technical setup
Price action is messy. The weekend printed a flash crash that CryptoPotato flagged as a stress test for BTC, ETH and XRP, with BTC recovering off a tag near $80,000. That is the level the entity digest cites as the key retest, and it is doing its job as support so far. The $83,000 band is where sellers have shown up, and until a daily close prints above it on strong volume, the structure is a range.
