Market context
Bitcoin is caught between two crowds that don't agree. Large wallets bought $4. 3 billion in BTC over the past 60 days, ZyCrypto reported Tuesday, citing on-chain accumulation trackers.
Wallets holding under 100 BTC did the opposite, dumping into the strength. That divergence is what's holding the tape up around $65,700 to $67,000 without a runaway spot bid. Coinbase's FOIA settlement with the SEC over Gary Gensler's destroyed text messages, which delivered a $150,000 payment and record-retention reforms per Bitcoin Magazine, closes another loop in the regulatory rehabilitation story that started with the CLARITY Act pass.
The macro backdrop is uglier. Trump's threat to hit Iranian infrastructure over Strait of Hormuz attacks pushed oil near $87 and gold near $4,100 on Tuesday, per CryptoBriefing, and BTC leaked below $66,000 in the same session. Alphabet earnings Wednesday give the tape another reason to sit on its hands.
Technical setup
The chart is doing the thing where every rejection is shallower than the last. BTC tagged $67,000 intraday before drifting to $65,700, and the 24-hour range is compressing into what analysts are calling a pre-breakout coil. CryptoPotato flagged a repeat of the 2020-21 cycle pattern that would carry price to $173,000 if it plays out, with a weekly close below $51,000 as the hard invalidation.
That level is not arbitrary. It's the pre-halving consolidation shelf and the last spot where whale cost basis clusters, per Glassnode's realized price bands. Above, $67,000 is the sticky sell zone that has capped four attempts in the past three weeks.
