Market context
The setup Ethereum brought into Friday isn't complicated. Spot ETH funds pulled in $713 million this week, CryptoBriefing reported, closing to within $171 million of Bitcoin's $884 million haul over the same window. That's the tightest weekly gap of the current inflow run, and it's the ninth straight session of net creations for both product families per 99Bitcoins' Aug.
28 note. Solana and Hyperliquid vehicles added smaller sums on Aug. 27 without denting the ETH share.
The flow picture is the story, and it's a shift. For most of 2026 the ETH-to-BTC inflow ratio hovered around 40%. This week it printed near 81%.
Allocators aren't rotating out of Bitcoin, they're adding Ethereum alongside it, which is a very different signal from the one that dominated the first half of the year. Whether that persists past month-end is the question every desk is asking.
Technical setup
Ethereum closed last week above $2,400 and pushed into $2,501 by Friday, per CryptoPotato's Aug. 28 recap. The trend structure is intact - higher lows since the mid-August breakout, price holding above the 21-day moving average, and volume expanding on green candles.
That's the constructive read. The less constructive read is what Blockchain. News flagged Thursday.
ETH is in classic overextension territory with daily RSI printing above 70 and momentum stalling at $2,501. Crypto. news added a second layer on Friday, noting a dense band of margin long positions clustered around $2,550 - the exact zone bulls need to reclaim to run higher.
