Market context
ETH is caught between two stories this week and the tape is telling you which one the desk is pricing. The bullish story is institutional: JPMorgan's JPM Coin went live on Ethereum mainnet on October 19, giving institutional clients 24/7 dollar settlement on a public chain, per Decrypt. CryptoSlate confirmed the launch gives zero retail access and no fund-subscription product is attached yet. Sparkasse's rollout, running in parallel through DekaBank with Börse Stuttgart on custody, opens Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Polygon trading inside the existing Sparkassen app. The association told dpa that 30 to 40 institutions will join each month, with a substantial share connected by H1 2027.
The bearish story is the price. ETH is at $2,397.10 as of Monday, down 1.42% on the day and tracking under its 7-, 20- and 50-day moving averages, Blockchain.News reported. Taker sell volume on Binance has outpaced buys. BitMine chairman Tom Lee flagged the setup for BeInCrypto, pointing to de-risking across the US, South Korea and Taiwan tied to AI-funding worries, US-Iran war activity, midterm nerves and rising bond yields. Lee's own vehicle holds ETH, which fell 1.91% over seven days against BTC's 0.177% slip. The institutional pipeline doesn't help a chart that's already lost its moving-average stack.
Technical setup
The $2,330 level is doing the heavy lifting. AMBCrypto flagged it explicitly as the shelf being tested, with active addresses jumping 89,000 to a 389,000 print as price pressed support. That's an unusual combination: participation rising into a weak tape typically marks either accumulation or a capitulation flush, and the next 48 hours of candles will tell you which.
