Market context
The tape did the talking Friday. Bitcoin dumped under $80,000, dragging ether below $2,400 and SOL under $100, with CryptoPotato pegging total liquidations at $670 million over the session. Zcash was down more than 7%. SOL's break of the triple-digit handle matters less as a technical event than as a sentiment reset: it is the first time since the summer that the market has been forced to price Solana without the memecoin tailwind that carried the second half.
The macro overlay is unusually dense for a Friday. US regulators finalized stablecoin rules under the GENIUS Act this week, per Crypto.News's weekly recap, and Bitcoin's reversal came on the back of a sharp swing in spot ETF flows. For Solana, the regulatory read-across is secondary. What matters more is that the sell-off landed on the same day Yakovenko posted a proposal that could rewrite how SOL is issued against collateral. Markets rarely digest a protocol-level pitch and a liquidation cascade in the same session cleanly.
Technical setup
The $100 level was the obvious magnet and the obvious line of defense. Losing it on a Friday close carries weight because weekend liquidity is thin and stops below round numbers tend to get run. SOL's prior defended range through October sat in the $108 to $115 band, so a reclaim of $108 on a daily close would frame Friday's wick as a liquidity grab rather than a trend break. Below $100, the next meaningful shelf is the summer accumulation range near $88 to $92, where spot bids historically absorbed selling before the Firedancer-driven rally.
