Market context
XRP closed the week around $1.39 after printing a $1.10 low earlier in the run, according to Bitcoinist and CoinDesk price data. The 26% move landed inside a broader risk-on bid: Bitcoin cleared $75,000 for the first time in this cycle, and CryptoPotato's analyst desk called the bull market open on Thursday. Ripple's XRP led the altcoin tape rather than following it, which is the detail that matters. In prior runs XRP moved on the tail of Bitcoin's dominance rolling over. This time it's out in front.
The catalyst mix is unusually dense for a single week. Ripple confirmed backing for a Clearpool and Cicada Partners RLUSD credit fund targeting fintech and payments firms, per CoinDesk and Crypto.News on Aug. 21. Clearpool separately outlined an XRP Ledger lending protocol built around the XLS-66 and XLS-65 amendments, though CoinDesk noted the underlying ledger features are still awaiting activation. That gap between announcement and go-live is the thing to watch. It's not a red flag. It's a timing question.
Technical setup
Price is coiled below $1.41, the level our prior read flagged as the wall that has to break. The tape did the hard part: it reclaimed $1.10, ran through $1.20, and closed the week nearer $1.39 on rising volume. But bulls have not converted $1.41 into support. Every rejection there since April has been sold into by the same block-sized offers, and this week's move stalled at the same shelf.
Invalidation for the bull case is a daily close back under $1.20. That would erase the reclaim that started this leg and turn the $1.10-$1.20 pocket back into a supply zone. Above $1.41, the next liquid resistance stack sits at $1.68 and then the psychological $2 handle, which is where the CoinDesk-reported straddle buyer has drawn a line. That trade, a roughly $2 million position expiring Aug. 28, is a direct read-through: someone with size expects a resolution one way or the other inside a week.
