What happened
The Ethereum Foundation added Pascal Caversaccio to its board on Thursday, according to a report from BeInCrypto citing Foundation disclosures. Caversaccio is a Swiss-based security researcher known for smart-contract audit work and for building privacy-oriented tooling on Ethereum. He joins an existing board that includes Vitalik Buterin, Aya Miyaguchi, and Patrick Storchenegger, and slots in alongside the two co-executive directors, Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak, who took operational leadership earlier this year.
The Foundation did not publish a separate blog post to accompany the announcement at the time of writing, and no compensation, term length, or committee assignment has been disclosed. Caversaccio's public work sits primarily on GitHub and on his research write-ups, where he has spent years shipping open-source security libraries used by other auditors.
Why it matters
Board appointments at the Ethereum Foundation are rare and they tell you what the organization is prioritizing next. The Foundation manages a treasury that was last disclosed at roughly $970 million as of its 2024 report, and its board sets the frame for grant policy, protocol research funding, and the tone of the Foundation's public interventions on regulation and privacy. Adding a security-and-privacy specialist rather than a lawyer, a policy hire, or a macro figure is a tell.
It lines up with a year of visible privacy work: the ongoing rollout of stealth addresses, the push around ERC-4337 account abstraction, and the Foundation's more vocal defense of privacy tooling after the Tornado Cash sentencing cycle. The headline reads governance. The subtext reads privacy stack.
