What happened
The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) used an Oct. 23 press conference to roll out the agenda and speaker list for Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK 2026, per BeInCrypto's Oct. 27 report.
The flagship runs Nov. 2-6, moving between the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and venues across the city's Startmeup district. Organisers project more than 45,000 attendees drawn from over 120 economies, numbers that would put the 2026 edition ahead of last year's turnout.
The week is being positioned as the public launch stage for the fintech workstreams inside the National 15th Five-Year Plan, which Beijing finalised earlier this autumn. Programming spans Web3, virtual-asset regulation, tokenised real-world assets, cross-border payments, and AI in financial services. A dedicated StartmeupHK track focuses on early-stage founders pitching to regional venture capital.
Full speaker list and session grid were published to the official FinTech Week portal following the Oct. 23 briefing.
Why it matters
Hong Kong has spent two years rebuilding its pitch as Asia's regulated crypto venue, and this is the week it audits that work in public. The virtual asset trading platform (VATP) licensing regime, the stablecoin ordinance passed by LegCo earlier in 2025, and the tokenisation sandbox under the Hong Kong Monetary Authority all needed a convening moment. FinTech Week is that moment.
Tying the event to the National 15th Five-Year Plan rollout is the signal worth reading. Mainland fintech priorities now have a Hong Kong launch pad, which matters for any firm weighing a Hong Kong entity against Singapore or Dubai. The 45,000-attendee number is a soft benchmark against Singapore's Token2049, which drew roughly 25,000 in September.
