What happened
JPMorgan Chase, the largest U. S. bank by assets, included a dedicated Bitcoin forecast inside its 2026 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions.
The flagship report is used by institutional allocators to set 10 to 15-year return expectations across every major asset class. The base case puts Bitcoin at a 10% compound annualized return through 2036. The bull case runs to 16%.
Analysts Grace Remington and Sean Hagan built the model, according to Bitcoin Magazine, which first reported the details on Wednesday. It is the first time Bitcoin appears as a standalone line item in the bank's long-horizon return study. Earlier editions treated digital assets either as a footnote or ignored them outright.
The report does not disclose the specific inputs behind the forecast, but the Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions series typically blends equilibrium valuation anchors, supply dynamics, and historical volatility to generate return bands.
Why it matters
The Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report is not a trading note. It is the document pensions, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices open when they rebuild their strategic asset allocation. A 10% base-case return through 2036 drops Bitcoin into a model where it competes directly with private equity, emerging-market equities, and infrastructure.
That is a very different conversation than treating BTC as a speculative sleeve. The symbolic weight is heavier. Jamie Dimon has called Bitcoin a fraud, a Ponzi, and worthless at various points since 2017.
