What happened
CryptoBriefing reported on Friday that Meta is building a humanoid version of its Muse AI agent, the conversational assistant the company has been piloting across its platforms. The report, which cites people familiar with the project, says the humanoid build is a distinct hardware track rather than a repackaging of existing Ray-Ban Meta or Quest work. Meta has not confirmed the project publicly.
The company's Reality Labs division already burns roughly $4 billion a quarter, and any humanoid program would land inside that cost base rather than being spun out. The timing matters: Tesla's Optimus Gen 3 is slated for a limited commercial trial in early 2027, and Figure's 02 is already in pilot deployments at BMW's Spartanburg plant. A Meta entry pushes the field from three serious contenders to four, with Apple's long-rumored robotics group still unannounced.
Why it matters
Embodied AI is the next capex arms race, and Meta joining it reshapes the AI-crypto overlap. The thesis crypto investors have ridden since 2024 - that decentralized compute, decentralized data, and tokenized robotics networks capture spillover from the AI boom - gets a direct catalyst. Humanoid robots consume compute, generate training data, and need persistent coordination layers.
Each of those pieces has a crypto-native project pitching itself as the open alternative. The report also arrives three weeks after Meta disclosed in its Q3 filing that it is exploring on-device AI acceleration, which the company tied to privacy. A humanoid in the home makes that framing urgent rather than theoretical.
Expect regulators in Brussels and Washington to ask the privacy question before the compute question.
