What happened
PhotonPay, a Hong Kong-headquartered payments firm, closed a $40 million Series C led by Blockchain Capital, according to a statement carried by Crypto Briefing on Wednesday. The company did not disclose a post-money valuation in the initial release. Blockchain Capital, the San Francisco firm that has backed Coinbase, Kraken, and Ripple over its 13-year run, led the round.
PhotonPay said the proceeds will fund expansion of its stablecoin settlement rails, build out its AI-driven merchant and treasury tools, and support licensing in additional jurisdictions. The firm already holds payment and virtual-asset licenses across Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, the US, and the EU, and processes cross-border flows for e-commerce merchants, platforms, and global enterprises.
Why it matters
The round is a datapoint, not a shock. It matters because of what it says about where crypto venture money is going in late 2026. Stablecoin payment infrastructure has become the dominant pitch deck.
Blockchain Capital leading the check, rather than participating, signals conviction that the merchant-settlement layer is where the next leg of adoption actually lands. PhotonPay sits at a specific intersection: a licensed payments firm that already clears fiat for merchants, now layering USDC and USDT rails underneath. That's the exact profile acquirers and strategic partners have been shopping for since the GENIUS Act cleared Congress last year and Circle's post-IPO treasury partnerships widened the addressable market.
Market impact
There's no token here. No airdrop, no listing, no direct price catalyst for any asset on the board. The impact routes through flows.
