SpaceX will use Nvidia's Vera Rubin GPU platform as the compute backbone for a new build-out of AI data centers, with a target of 10 gigawatts of installed capacity by 2027, CryptoBriefing reported Wednesday. Vera Rubin is Nvidia's next architecture after Blackwell, named for the American astronomer, and it's the silicon Nvidia has been guiding customers toward for 2026-2027 training workloads.
The report frames SpaceX as the anchor customer for that generation, not a pilot buyer. 10 GW is a serious number. For context, xAI's Colossus cluster in Memphis, which Musk has publicly described as one of the largest AI training sites in the world, runs on a fraction of that power envelope today.
A 10 GW target puts SpaceX in the same conversation as Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon's most aggressive multi-year capex plans.
Why it matters
The headline is a Musk-Nvidia story, but the second-order read is capex. Every hyperscaler commitment of this size compresses the window for competitors to secure allocation on Vera Rubin, and it hardens Nvidia's grip on the frontier training market through the end of the decade. It also complicates the narrative that AI infrastructure spend is peaking.
