What happened
Strategy, the Bitcoin treasury vehicle run by Michael Saylor, said in an October 16 filing that it will shift STRC preferred-stock dividends to a daily cadence beginning in November 2026, subject to shareholder approval at an October 28 meeting. The filing lays out conditional record dates for every business day of November and sets the implied monthly payout at approximately $1 per preferred share, which the company flagged as equivalent to roughly 12% annualized. NewsBTC first reported the proposal Friday.
STRC, which Strategy markets as Stretch, is a variable-rate preferred security the company issued earlier in its treasury build. It sits above common stock in the capital structure and carries a $100 reference price the issuer actively manages toward. Dividends on preferred shares are typically paid monthly or quarterly across US-listed issuers, which makes the daily format a deliberate break from convention rather than a mechanical housekeeping change.
Why it matters
The proposal is a tell on how Strategy is financing its Bitcoin stack right now. Preferred paper lets the company raise capital without immediately printing more common shares, which protects MSTR holders from direct dilution. The trade-off is a running dividend obligation that has to be serviced regardless of where spot bitcoin trades. Shifting the pay cycle to daily is a liquidity-management signal to a specific buyer base: income-focused funds and structured-product desks that mark positions daily and care about accrual timing more than headline coupon.
It also sharpens the peg mechanics. STRC's appeal rests on the recurring income plus the issuer's effort to hold the quote near $100. Shorter settlement intervals compress the gap between declaration and payment, which in theory keeps the clean price tighter to par. That does not raise the economic yield and it does not create daily compounding on its own. What it does is make the instrument easier to model against money-market and short-duration credit alternatives, which is the shelf STRC is competing on.
