What happened
Trust Wallet, the Binance-owned self-custody wallet with more than 200 million installs, switched on a native integration with MoonPay Trade on Wednesday, per CryptoBriefing. The feature lets a user hold BTC on one chain, tap swap, and receive a token on a different chain without leaving the app and without opening an account on a centralized venue. MoonPay handles the quoting and routing layer.
Trust Wallet keeps the keys on the device. Settlement runs through MoonPay's aggregator stack, which pulls liquidity from DEX pools and market-maker inventory rather than a single order book. The company framed the launch as a step toward giving retail users the same cross-chain access power users already build themselves with bridges and aggregators, minus the manual steps.
Why it matters
The economics of self-custody wallets have shifted. For years the pitch was 'safer than a CEX,' and the revenue was thin. Swap take-rates changed that.
MetaMask's swap product has been the reference case, generating tens of millions in annualized fees off in-wallet routing. Trust Wallet plugging MoonPay Trade into 200M installs is a distribution event, not a product event. It puts a fee-earning swap flow in front of a user base that historically sent trades to Binance or PancakeSwap.
It also deepens Binance's stake in the self-custody trade at a moment when regulators keep pushing users away from custodial venues in several jurisdictions.
Market impact
No token moved on the news, because Trust Wallet doesn't have one and MoonPay isn't public. The impact is competitive. Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Uniswap Wallet and Phantom all sell some version of in-app cross-chain swaps, and each takes a spread.
