What happened
CryptoNews published a price analysis Wednesday morning arguing that XRP, trading around $1. 62, has a path toward $1. 80 this week.
The piece anchors on a specific on-exchange flow: XRP reserves on Binance climbed to a three-month high. That is the headline number, and it cuts both ways. Rising exchange reserves typically mark tokens moving from self-custody to a venue where they can be sold, not accumulated.
The bullish read requires a different interpretation, that market makers are staging inventory into the deepest XRP order book on the planet ahead of expected demand. Neither read is settled by the reserve figure alone. Ripple Labs has not issued a corporate update tied to the move, and no US or offshore regulator has posted an XRP-specific filing in the 24 hours before the CryptoNews piece went live.
Why it matters
XRP spent most of the summer chopping in a $1. 40 to $1. 70 band, and $1.
80 is the ceiling of that range on a weekly closing basis. A reclaim opens the door to the psychological $2 handle. A failure at $1.
80, with reserves already elevated on Binance, is the setup that pins the token back toward the range low. This is the tension traders are pricing. It matters more than a standard altcoin technical breakout because XRP still carries a distinct legal overhang from the SEC case, and Ripple's own token distribution schedule remains a persistent supply factor.
Any move that clears $1. 80 has to absorb both.
